Description
Captain Jack is finally dying, and it’s time for his oldest friend to visit his deathbed. King John has come to tell him a story. The story of the life he should have had.
It’s the story of Alexander the Great, sinking ships, falling empires, robot dinosaurs, and alien invasions. It’s a story of love, royal weddings, murder, mass murder, genocide, and very tight trousers.
It’s the story of the life of Captain John and it’s the story of Torchwood. Be careful what you wish for.

Let’s be honest: this audio doesn’t make any sense in terms of timeline (why are they calling each other Jack and John???). Yet, who gives a damn because it’s one hell of a fun ride and sometimes quite meta in all the right ways (RIP Miracle Day)!
All the actors seem to have fun and give solid performances in this What If story. And James Marsters’ performance makes me very excited to have him pop up in other Big Finish stories.

This audio is confusing, but a lot of fun. It shows Jack and John’s relationship as both enemies and lovers. It’s a well told story, but it simply doesn’t make sense outside of being a standalone story.

I’d remove a star for some inaccuracies (Jack and John refer to each other as those names before they would have been changed) but I really enjoyed this.
It’s a great concept that may be confusing at the start, and it deals with a plot on a far larger scale than we’re used to in the Big Finish audios. If you can get around the parts that don’t make much sense, John and Jack’s dynamic is wonderfully complicated with some really fun scenes – it has cameos from most of the main cast and doesn’t hold back from using all of John’s chaotic potential. Miracle Day got obliterated in one line. You’ll finish the audio with ‘What did I just listen to?’ but it’s absolutely worth it.

Was not expecting the major amounts of sex noises.
BE WARNED: SEX NOISES

This was so interesting! It was fun and weird and a little out there but also good. It’s very different from most of the other stories.
It was cool to see how things everything might have gone if things were different. Jack and John having interacting with historic figures was pretty funny and certain interactions were a bit unexpected (although I probably should have expected that).
So many different characters from the other audios / the show appeared in such a short period of time and it was fun!

What a rollercoaster! I had been sceptical at first – I mean how can you tell a story like proposed on the booklet within 60 minutes? But yes, trust me it’s possible. Despite the fact that this story does not fit into our timeline at all (it’s a what if story after all), it’s SO much fun and it gives you no break from start to finish. James Marsters does such a brilliant job, as well as the (huge) cast around him. Don’t let yourself get spoiled regarding the story, just dive into it. But pick a time with the right mindset (being a bit tipsy totally helps, hah!) – embrace the fun and you won’t be disappointed.
