Estelle –
This episode is worth it if only because of how much fun the actors seem to be having at playing body-swapped characters. They all get the voice and mannerisms so right it’s hilarious. Special kudos to Samuel Barnett as Tyler and Jonny Green as Norton. I realised during one of their conversations that I had completely forgotten they were body-swapped but I still knew which one was which.
Speaking of, Norton and Tyler’s body-swap is the wildest one. It was a lot of fun to see Norton’s reaction to being in Tyler’s body. Unfortunately, after the last episode, I was very uncomfortable that the body of the man who was sexually abused recently was the one whose new “handler” would have lots of sex in. What he had been through wasn’t even mentioned by Tyler during their heart-to-heart on why he didn’t like Norton using his body like this! This is a big issue with the box-set (and unfortunately Torchwood in general), not this specific episode, so I’m still giving the episode 4 stars.
Mr Colchester and Jack’s body-swap was the emotional beat to me with Mr Colchester’s anger at yet again being deprived of sharing something with Colin and Jack’s longing for that kind of connection. Still, seeing Jack using his (ridiculous and awkward) romancing technique on Colin was quite funny!
Yvonne being in Andy’s body was hilarious and I loved every single moment of that interview. Andy being in Yvonne’s body mainly served in advancing the over-arching plot.
More generally, this episode does a good job of seamlessly setting the chess pieces for the final confrontation.
