First of all, the way the story is narrated (first person monologue with inserted dramatised segments) really serves the story. It gives it a noir fiction feel that really goes well with all the conspiracies and deceptions. All the actors give great performances and are a pleasure to listen to.
The story itself is gripping and kicks off the Committee storyline with success. I always like stories that tackle how the outside world process everything Torchwood and this one is a great take on it.

Whilst the plot is not as compelling as others, it’s a wonderful introduction to both the Committee storyline and the Big Finish audios. Jack’s narration is as great as you’d expect it to be and it was a good decision to utilise charismatic acting in that way. If this is your first audio, it’s also a good way to get used to listening to the stories, since it’s halfway between an audiobook and a drama. It feels grounded in Torchwood but opens the door to the larger universe. It has good side characters and an interesting twist, making it both mysterious and fun, which is always perfect for an adventure with Jack.

The story was intriguing, conspiracy theories are so much fun, even that I usually don’t believe any of them. It was kind of a mix of narration/interaction throught the story. At first I wasn’t sure if I like the big amount of narration since I wasn’t expecting it, but it also meant a huge amount of speaking time fell to John Barrowman and so who am I to complain. 😉

This was a great reintroduction to Torchwood and opening to the storyline of the Committee. It was very nice to have Jack back, and it felt great to have Torchwood back at long last! Big Finish are so good at captivating their audiences, and giving us storylines we deserve, and this sets the framework and tone for the future of Torchwood at Big Finish.
