New Girl
“They’ve been coming to us for years. And we’ve been kept in the dark. My name’s Rachel Allan. And I’m Torchwood”
It’s Rachel Allan’s first day at Torchwood. Torchwood only takes the brightest and the best – and Rachel’s wondering if Yvonne Hartman’s made a terrible mistake in picking her.
Plunged into a world of alien invasions and office politics, Rachel’s desperate to fit in. For one thing, she really wants this job. And, for another, she knows what happens at Torchwood if you fail.

This audio is a nice introduction to the world of Torchwood One, it’s all very corporate…but with aliens!
The contrast between the usual white-collar working environment and the subject matter is very interesting and quite delightful.
The characters are all very charming, may they be old favourites (Ianto), recent favourites (Yvonne) or complete strangers.
As for the plot, this is the kind of story where all you want to do when you reach the end is to go back to listen to it all again to see how the pieces were moved masterfully to reach that end.

I think exploring Torchwood One is one of the best choices BF made. I’ve never really thought about it much beyond what we see in DW and TW, but the details and all the personnel really make it come alive.

Great first episode for Torchwood One. This episode starts with Rachel Allen starting her new job at Torchwood One. And it’s a great way to introduce all of use to how TW1 works. It’s definitely less alien hunting and more a normal office job – with a twist. It’s a bit strange to not have Lisa there (what was that for an explanation?), but I guess it served the story – so there we go. The whole cast was great and Sophie Winkleman does such an excellent job as Rachel!
