Description
Mars is the next giant leap for mankind. Starr Base is the first small step. A practice Mars base has been set up in a quarry in Neath, just off the A474. Its aim is to see if humanity can survive on the red planet.
The problem is that the crew are dying. The survivors are terrified, paranoid, and wondering if something alien has got inside Starr Base. Sgt Andy Davidson has come to find out what’s gone wrong.

This is a second riff on And Then There Were None with a side of creepy robotic voice in a row for the Torchwood monthly range! But where Save Our Souls used the “bottle episode” format to create a psychological thriller with an emphasis on the characters, Red Base is mostly about the mystery, the whodunit and lighter on character study.
Still, as always, Tom Price is delightful and brilliant as Andy Davidson and I personally cheered for him when he did his big Poirot reveal at the end!
A solid mystery episode with delightful characters, what more could we ask for?
